Introducing the Materials Center at Sabot at Stony Point

The Materials Center is a place that encourages our community to take a fresh look at the value of waste materials by highlighting their beauty and potential for use in the classroom.  It is a place where found and recycled objects are collected, sorted, and displayed for repurposing by teachers and students in their project work.  It is based on the belief that such materials provide open-ended possibilities that encourage questioning, thinking, and creativity in a way that traditional materials may not.  Working with such materials can challenge our thinking and support childrens' natural disposition to interact with their environment in creative ways.

On a secondary yet important level, the Materials Center provides a tangible expression of our school's commitment to promoting sustainability by embracing the idea of waste materials as resources.

The Materials Center is in its early stages of development and we are currently collecting interesting found and waste materials to stock its shelves, both from our community and eventually from local businesses.  If you have any materials that might be useful for the center, please get in touch with us and we can coordinate a pick-up or drop-off.  All materials must be clean and free of food particles. Please refer to the donations tab above for a more comprehensive list of materials we are collecting, including a priority list of items we are particularly in need of.

Thank you for your support!
